| Go Mavs Mavs move past the Wolves with ease. Now on to face the weak Kings. See you in the conference finals Lakers. |

| Being a big Wolves fan, I really don't like the Mavs. I think we've got a nice little rivalry going on now. I must say though, I was really impressed with how the Mavs played in that series. I'd really like to see them play the Lakers in the Conference Finals. If they spent all their energy in this series and just slump from here, I'll be really really angry with them.

| Believe me, they didnt spend "all" their energy in this series. it would have been a little more competitive had the Mavs not decided to shoot so well. That was the key, them getting 13 three's in the last game. No one can beat them when they shoot that good, but that means they would have to play that way against the Lakers 4 times. It could happen, it just probably won't be so quick.

| A couple of questions entered my mind as I watched the Mavs roll through Garnett and his wolves. If you are Don Nelson, who and how many people are you going to stick on Shaq down low. It seems like you could run at him with a combination of Zhizhi, Lafrentz, and Bradley, but none of those guys strike me as big enough to even stand in with Shaq. Novitzki would be the obvious choice but I don't think you'd want to run the risk of him picking up some cheap fouls if Shaq starts leaning in or trying to draw them. A double team always seems logical, but who else would you bring in? Furthermore, can Nash guard Kobe through the entire series even though he is giving up four inches? I think the Mavs can get past the Lakers, but these are the concerns I have in terms of potential weaknesses. |

First off, about Shaq, you have to let him get his 35 points and 12 rebounds. There ain't much you can do about him. what you do is try and make all their other guys pick up the slack and hit big shots. on Kobe, the mavs will probably put griff, buckner, or newman. All three great defenders who can make kobe work. Then its just up to the Mavs hitting their shots and forcing the laker extras: Horry, George, Walker, Fox, fisher pick up the slack. It WOULD be an interesting series, but remember, both have to get past their next foes first.

Maybe it's just the Jazz and they will be rejuvenated in the second round. But, the Mavs looked excellent in the first round, their guards were hitting their shots and their big men were playing well on the glass and in the low post (when they weren't themselves hitting long shots). Maybe it's just a dream to see a series with the Lakers and Mavs. I know that you have to concede Shaq's double double to him, but you have to do something against him, so that he doesn't run his total up to 50 or even 60. The scary part about the Lakers is that they have the other guys that can put a team away if Shaq is held. Horry, Fisher, and Fox are players who are capable of 15-22 points a game. I just wonder who the Lakers are going to put against Novitzski, the only guess I can wager would be either Walker (due to his size) or Horry (due to his defensive ability) but neither of those guys have the overall ability to stop Dirk in my opinion. |

yes, shaq has to be contained, thats a big factor. I think we can hold him down to less than 40 most of the games. The rest of their team is great, but also i think we can hold most of them. If we can play our uptempo game and not let it get into a halfcourt game, then it will be a lot easier for us mavs. The trouble gets when Shaq gets deep in the paint and draws easy three point plays. Kobe will also get points, but griff/buck/najera/newman can keep him more quiet. It would be an excellent series.

| Maybe the more important question is, can anyone from the East beat any of the four teams left in the West? Iverson's good, but the West is filled with seven footers willing to knock him out of the air, not to mention his wrist. Is the Western Conference Finals going to be more exciting than the NBA finals? |
