| College vs. Pro I want to know what everyone else thinks about this subject, it goes for ALL sports. Which do you like better? I know that mostly everyone on CGR are probably not playing in a Pro-sport (myself included), So I'm going to say which is your favorite to watch?
I like college better because they dont get paid, so they actually try because they know that scouts are out there watching them so they have a reason to actually try.
On the other hand, I dont like Pro because they get paid millions of dollars every year so no matter what they do, they get paid anyways. Since that, they dont try as hard as the college players.
I also want to know your opinion on this so post!

| I like College B-ball way better than Pro. But I prefer Pro Football, even though there is more drama in College Football |

| well, i will agree that college kids SOMETIMES put more effort in it than pros. I just dont like watching the majority of college basketball games cause all they do is shoot three's. and also, the talent level is not as high in college, so sometimes you see some terrible play on the college courts. In the NBA, there are TONS of players who play their tails of every game. They are trying to get a spot in the teams rotation, and they can't do that without trying. Example: Eduardo Najera gets paid aound a couple mill a year. Yet he doesnt just sit around and not play. He hustles all the time for the Dallas mavericks, and comes out of the games exhausted because of his play. Another example: Now one knew who Ben Wallace was before this year. His hair had been his major draw, but now people recognize him as a tenacious rebounder, hustler, and hard worker on defense. Let me tell you guys, its not best to generalize and say that the NBA is just a bunch of lazy bums who get paid to play. There are some who do that, but the majority don't. College sports are fun to watch, but the skill is sometimes lacking, especially when you're watching, oh, say, Montana vs. pepperdine. i just like watching sports at a higher level, i guess. I love watching college sports, its just most of the time they bore me a bit.

| I disagree. I prefer pro in all sports basically because the level of play is higher and I like to follow the pro personalities. For instance, the college game doesn't have sneering coaches like Jon Gruden, show-offs like Randy Moss, or wacky owners like Mark Cuban. It's those little details that make the difference for me. I'll probably be in the minority here, but it's the entertainment level that matters most. |

plus i personally think college is a little harder to track since uve got totally new players popping in every season only to disapear one or two years later.

Yes the NFL got Spurrier, one of my favorite characters to watch, but what does it matter? Trust me, college does have show-offs, they're called Florida Gators, Tennessee Vols and Notre Dame Fighting Irish (among about 40-60 others). College sports create a true bond with the fan more than pro. I live and die by Gamecock athletics and I know Brian does the same with OSU sports.
Summary: college (- BCS) = sports heaven... pro = an exciting medium to watch the guys you pulled for when they were in college |

I just get really tired of watching boring teams shoot up three pointers. The really good college programs usually dont do this, but the vast majority do. I do love keeping up with various colleges and universities and seeing how they do, but I just get bored a lot at the level they play at sometimes. Its just so much more fun to watch a team like the Mavs, who have such exciting players who are so talented, instead of watching a team that has one superstar who jacks up 35 shots a game and makes only 10. I do like watching college, sometimes, but not compared to NBA.
The other sports such as football are similar. I love watching college football, because its more like the NFL. I don't like watching college baseball, cause they have aluminum bats to swing with, and even the scruaniest guys hit monster home runs with those bats.
The vast majority of college sporting is pretty good, but i can usually find something better to watch.

| I like the pros better because in college the players are there for only 4 years (for basketball even less). |

It's every bit as much about winning a title as it is in pro. The rivalry issue just adds fuel to the fire (not that there arent' some spectacular tradion-rich pro rivalries). I'll go poll every athlete at my school and see what his/her #1 sports-related goal is... most likely it'd be a national championship.
Aside from the Green Bay Packers, I don't see every player and coach standing around after practice / spring game to sign autographs for kids. A person might see an athlete once outside of the stadium in their entire lifetime... I see our 2002 starting QB every Tuesday and Thursday morning. In fact, he sits right behind me and we've talked quite a few times. How many local Joe's can say that about a local pro athlete? |

How many local Joe's can say that about a local pro athlete? | i can. greg biekert usally has thanksgiving with us. i see and hang w/ the whole raider team a few times a years. gannon actually remembered who i was. i talked w/ tim brown for over an hour, about real life stuff, not how cool i think he is. this could go on and on......the fact is, pro athletes dont hang w/ etc. their fans as much as nonpro cuz they have a zillion more fans! its not that theyre puffed up or dont care. they have lives too and it comes to a point where fans need to respect and understand that a players #1 obligation is not to be nice to them.
