| I can't stand anime shows. Rarely are there any GOOD ones.
The ones that are aired in Japan are crappy. The ones that flop in Japan and they (the producers) try to make it big in the States, are crappier.
Besides that, anime has given folks a false image of Japan. Nintey-nine percent of the people I've talked to think that I can just go to a store five minutes from my house whenever I want and get ANY KIND OF ANIME MERCH. That's not true. In fact, anime merch is a rarity, aside from VHS and DVD items of a few select anime shows (Pokemon and Love Hina come to mind).

~Jon | Love Hina and Pokemon are messed up.
I say to you sir, Try any (or all) of Miyazaki's movies. Most of them are aimed for younger people than your self but...they are great. He does all of the animation, music....everything. He puts Mickey Mouse animation to shame. I've been all over his movie Princess Mononoke. Watch it. I saw it. And then bought it. |

Right before I left Japan, it was on TV and about 46.7% of people watching TV at that time were watching the movie. That's a HUGE TV rating. Amazing.
The fact is, Miyazaki is good. The other fact is, it's just Miyazaki. There's definitely not enough of Miyazaki to go around. Especially since most of his are old(er), they don't get much TV air time or anything.

| I predict that Gainax is becoming the next Myazaki, at least in the manga world. He's like the energizer freaking bunny.
(Neon Geneziz Evangelion manga, and interned on Lupin III manga, as well as was an assistant to what's-her-name that created Inuyasha)

~Jon | Oh....you've seen it? Cool. Wow. On my PM DVD, it says that it was a BIG hit in Japan. And it almost was more popular than Titanic. I think that's suppost to be a good thing... |

| Yeah, it probably was bigger than the Titanic overall. Except if you wanted to compare them in different age groups and gender, I'd definitely say the teenage girls would say the Titanic was better.
Lupin is an old show, isn't it? Along with the manga.....Inuyasha, that's new.
You guys should look into Mei Tantei Conan (Detective Conan). That's my favorite anime. Actually, it's the only good one on TV in Japan right now. I have like 45 manga about the whole story. It's probably more realistic than most shows though. Granted, Conan is also far from reality, though. But Inuyasha isn't exactly close to reality, either. Far far far from it.

~Jon | Haha. I'm a teenage girl. And...I think Titanic SUCKS. And compared to Pm..it is the biggest SUCKER!!
Sounds cool. You read manga? I do. Heh. I've got.....Gundam Wing Ep. Zero.....Cowboy Bebop:Shooting Star Num.1....A japanese language Megaman one.....uh...G Gundam...1 and 2....The Big O...Num 2..Tenchi Muyo! Num. 1....That's it. I plan to get Inu-Yasha ones.
Really? That's a lot of manga....do you know if it's in the US yet? It sounds cool. I like Mecha/Fantasy/Sci-Fiction/Action/Adventure stuff. |

| Yeah. The Lupin manga was done in the 70s when Mad Magazine was big, and has basically the same art style as the Mad cartoons, only with the tough of anime added. You gotta' hand it to him, Monkey Punch know how to imitate an art style... The show was late 70s or early 80 (I forget), and the Inuyasha manga is fairly old (at least early 90s I think), and the show is pretty new. Quote: |

| Hrmm... I've heard a lot of good things about Mei Tantei. I'll have to check it out someday.
Well.... nobody said Inuyasha was realistic. There's just something about a pissed-off dog-boy running around Japan with a magical katana that's just... fun.

Sounds cool. You read manga? I do. Heh. | Yeah, but you're not a Japanese schoolgirl. They have these distorted minds. Badly distorted. And anything that David Beckham or Decrapio do is great, cause they're cute. I doubt the news that Decrapio is gay, and that Beckham is almost gay has gotten to Japan yet.....
Blah, enough ranting on Japanese schoolgirls's distorted minds.
Manga is cool. I doubt it's in English yet, but when it is, check it out. It'll probably be called Prince of Tenis. About a 7th grader tennis pro.

| I can't believe that only a couple of people mentioned Trigun, one of the coolest anime series of all time. And I also can't believe that nobody mentioned Crest of the Stars. Which I found very cool. Even though the voice acting (english dub; I watched it on TechTV) was *extremely* bad. If any of you have watched it, it would be Jason, simply because he is the only one that has mentioned TechTV. Have you seen it Jason? |
