| That depends entirely on what you're looking for. Some people swear by Strats, others go the Gibson Les Paul direction, and still others (like myself) go for a PRS. Others will say that PRS's are overpriced, but you can get a great PRS used for $1500 or less. I got mine for $1300, and it's the best $1300 I've ever spent. Let us know more specifically what kind of music you play, and maybe we can give you advice based on that.

| Most people playing that style these days are going with the Gibson Les Paul style guitar. I really have no idea why that is, because I have no problems getting most punk sounds out of my really simple rig - a Mexican Tele through an older tube amp with the gain up high..... I think it might be for looks more than sound in most cases!

| You should check out Ed Roman guitars.. such as a Quicksilver.. he makes awesome guitars that beat out PRS's by a mile, and they cost much less.. also, while PRS's are made by a machine, ed roman makes his by hand in his custom shop.. check out his website @ www.edroman.com |

| i'm so with nate on this one. i plugged a fender american tele (i like the 22nd fret) into a fender hot rod deville 2x10 and got almost perfect jimmy eat world tone...then i broke loose with a little blues...transferred to some punk for style points and played some laid back contemporary rock...haha...i will own that guitar.

Could just be heresay, but I thought you at least might want to know.

| Hmmmm.
If your JUST wanting to pay $1500 for the guitar, and not worrying about the amp/ect (which is the most critial factor in tone)......Hmm.
Tony Iommi SG
Jackson King V
Satch's sig Ibanez
That's all i can think of...

| Wait until December when Optek (link here) releases the Fretlight ][ guitar.
All my peeps here at CGR know I'm a big fan of these guitars because they have little lights in the fretboard and I think it's so KEWL (I even started another thread here ).
In fact, I just bought an original model fretlight off e-Bay, and when I receive it next week I will write a review of the Fretlight here for you to read (and everyone else on here I've been meaning to tell this news to!!!) (highfives to nate95366, R2D2, Bobthecockroach, GMartin2R and anyone else I may have missed!!)

| Jay42, I still think you're a little goofy about that Fretlight......it's the "Casio Keyboard" of guitars......but that's cool!
(highfives back)

| Exqueeze me dear sir, but can I use our vocabulary word STRAW MAN for this argument?!!! :kspin:
I know yer just joshin' me, but howzabout if I do my shameless plug anyway: The fretlights are of surprisingly good stock. They were built to compete with high-end guitar models and most were built by WASHBURN (dramatic pause here while we ponder that name and realize Jay is shamelessly name-dropping) my friend!!!
The lights are only on when you want them on, silly. Turn them off and this guitar is practically indistinguishable from a $15,000 Paul Reed Smith!!! (Jay pauses for a moment and remembers it's not good debating strategy to EXAGGERATE)
:kgrin:
