Who is YOUR Favorite?

Someone church today asked me who my favorite theologian was, so I thought I would ask you people, too.

So:

Who is your favorite theologian and/or biblical scholar?

I'll go first.

I would have to say that my favorite theologian is Stanley Hauerwas, followed by D Stephen Long.

That isn't to say that I don't have some issues and disagreements with Hauerwas. But, his emphases are, I think, very important. Including strong critiques of nationalism, warmongering, and civil religion. He also establishes well the importance of thinking of Christianity as an 'alien' community.

With regards to biblical scholars, I think James Crossley is a phenomenal scholar. His work is very broad, but his ideological critical stuff is top-notch. He does an amazing job, to that end, charting the ways that Jesus is interpreted, and shows the ideological roots to those interpretations.

Stanley Hauerwas
John Howard Yoder (I have to separate his personal life from his writing)
Greg Boyd (in many areas)

Within my own faith group it would be Jack Cottrell.

Oh I forgot about Greg Boyd!

I've never heard of Jack Cottrell, I'll have to look him up
