What Translations Do You Personally Use?

A simple and (hopefully) scandal free topic.

I preach from the CSB every Sunday. I like the way it reads out loud.

I use the NIV (1984) for Wednesday night Bible study because most of the folks who come use it.

I also use the ESV, NET, NASB, and THIS interlinear when studying.

I use the KJV. I know that it has fallen out of favor lately, but it is just fun to read. Almost poetic.

I usually stick with the NRSV.

I enjoy reading Psalms out of the KJV but that's about it.

I don't believe I have ever looked at a NRSV. If I have I don't remember it.

I like it a lot. It is really clear language and we used it in undergrad and masters work.

I like the readability of the NLT. ESV is okay. I kinda still like NASB from my teen and college days.

Seminary required NRSV. I found one with the Apocrypha.

My professors in Bible college in 1994 all used NASB. When I went back in 2005 some were using the ESV and others the NASB. My three seminary classes all used ESV.

I enjoy the NLT for personal reading. I also read The Message for devotional type things but would never teach or preach from it.

Generally use. The NASB
I really like The Passion Translation, for me it opens up different to what I’m used to.
And. Occasionally I. Use the Tree of Life version because it uses Hebrew names for stuff.

For study, I use NASB (1995, although the 2020 seems solid from what I've explored). For devotional and preaching usage, I use the most recent NIV. I've heard NRSV is solid but haven't ever read it. I'm also a fan of the Passion translation (like Mr. Dogfood) when I want a paraphrase version.

Any of ya'll heard of The Passion translation?

I am looking at those who endorse it and that doesn't make me want to rush out and check it out. It appears to be a single individual's translation.

I probably wouldn't use it for a deep theological revelation, and it's a bit wordier than it needs to be, but it's not quite on the same level as The Message.

Is that meant as a positive or a negative?

I like The Message as far as paraphrases go.
