I just go with the GP7 default "drumkit" - usually copied and pasted from a GP5 tab so it doesn't sound like awful MIDI. I mean, my playing's not that special to begin with. :P

Oh wow, I knew you could copy and paste across files in a version, never thought about across versions... although how do you import a GP5/6 drum sound without GP7 altering it to it's default? (which I'm not a big fan of) eta I recently wished I could copy and paste across Power Tab 2.0 and 1.7 but I didn't try it....

It's just copying the MIDI data over, which is essentially the same as copying a block of text. It's why GP and MIDI files are so small - you're not copying music itself, just a heap of bytes that is up to the computer to interpret.

If you copied the drum part of a file into a new score, the program would just say "Okay, this is where the notes are I will use the currently loaded VST at the currently set tempo to play it."

If it's a whole track it's just Ctrl A, Ctrl C, Ctrl V.

I haven't had a chance to try this yet... drat it, so busy..... oh yeah, I did like your SoundCloud Flyleaf cover... I did open a GP4 file someone did of Bon Jovi's Get Ready and copy/paste the drum and keyboard parts to new TuxGuitar files on my phone just to isolate and play around with them..

Eta (this is over an hour later but I just thought of it) text tabs (and you Giga Hertz may already know this but I just found it out for myself the other day) get misaligned when exported/imported or copy pasted because the font is not in Lucida Console... now with word-wrap you check and uncheck that to taste, for instance, TuxGuitar still has some issues unless you uncheck word wrap for viewing it's ASCII exports which are multi-instrument stacks, including drums, which while not ordered the same way as powertab 1.7 it includes drums as part of a single page. In other cases, word wrap needs to be checked to keep the text tab lines from being uneven.... (GP still only text exports single tracks instead of all the instruments together, actually I think GP7 folds all the tracks that it imports from text into a single long one including them all that way, but not in the export)

There's a number of monospace fonts (such as Courier New) so as long as you have your viewer set to anything to something like that, it should render a bit better. I think they have become a bit better at exporting them as direct ASCII, but it can still be a bit dodgy.

Since I'm usually doing it for something I'm reading myself later on, I'll usually just chop it down to whatever fits best for me.

It happened by accident for me, somehow the font got switched so that anything like a music staff I typed into notepad and wordpad came out 'warped'.... so I had to hunt to see what changed... (just as a side note, my tinnitus suddenly got worse this past Friday and I have absolutely no idea why... I can pintpoint exactly why and when it first started in March of last year... but this time I have no clue.... back to square one, trying to tune this new level of sizzle in my right ear out)

Speaking of what you do and read for yourself... what're the latest songs you're working on/tabbing? Combination of originals and covers? What's your progress?

I'm rearranging a few things like "Collide" by Skillet and "Shadow Proves the Sunshine" by Switchfoot. Generally I don't do anything fresh, I just take existing tabs and rearrange them to be more playable or easier to read.

That's an excellent idea... (the tab archive needs to be updated with new lessons methinks.) Everybody starts somewhere, different kinds of intermediate, someone aleays needs it broken down for them to make it easier to get to the next level of playing.... there's so many things left for me to learn, I tend to skip around....

I know I'm slow but I just figured out letter-wise, the bottom string of a five-string bass is the same as of a seven-string guitar, a B, albeit of course in the bass clef....

It's possible that it lost the clipboard data between copying. Did you try multiple times to re-copy it?

Yeah, a number of times and sessions so far, I'll try it again in a bit....

eta: ack! still not working!

eta2: it did it backwards from 7 to 5 but not from 5 to 7 ...not sure how that happened... (I saved and opened a copy in 7, but that's not the same process, especially since they do harmonics differently, too)
