distortion pedals not working

OK, So,,,, when hurricane harvey came through a year ago things just got packed up in a hurry. I unplugged my pedal board, left all the pedals still plugged in/chained together, and put it away. Can leaving an instrument cable plugged into a pedal for an extended period of time damage it? I have a delta labs and an mi audio crunch box. Neither are working correctly. At first there was no sound. I have only messed with crunch box a little. There's no problem with it in the chain but not in use, however when I turn it on it either does nothing or produces sound intermittently at random volumes with varying sound quality. If I just continue playing it occasionally it will sort of even out and sound OK.

Could there just be dust in the circuitry that needs to be burned off?

Can playing a pedal that is malfunctioning damage a tube amp?

I have a delay pedal that was also left in the loop for a year and a tuner that both seem to be working fine.

Clean up the circuitry as best as you can, but otherwise I'd say that pedal is... toast.

Tube amps are pretty hardy, so I doubt your pedal is going to damage it, unless it shorts and sends excess voltage down your chain. The safest bet is to remove it from your chain and test it by itself into an amp that you don't care too much about.

So just a heads up: If you take your pedal board with all pedals still chained together and throw it under your bed for 14 months some pedals may be glitchy. The distortion pedal and the octave pedal did not seem to be working initially. They both seem fine now.
