Ford To Discontinue All Sedans

Ford to stop selling sedans in North America in face of unstoppable crossover onslaught | Autoweek

The Mustang and Focus Active are the only two automobiles to remain in production. Trucks, SUVs, and crossovers will remain unaffected for now.

I get the logistics, but it still blows my mind.

I could see selling LESS sedans, even far less. Discontinuing may be a desperate move to recuperate losses from the past few years, but may not be looking far enough into the future unless they're looking to shift their focus primarily to commercial with some consumer on the side.

It could be that. Every photo I have seen of the 2019 Focus makes it look more like a wagon. By that I mean, not just a hatchback, but a legit wagon.

This is bad timing.

Ford to halt production of F series pick-ups.

Yeah...the sedan thing was a weird move. The truck thing is just rough. No backup supplier?

Nope.

One of our elders here is a Ford mechanic and he said this is devastating news. The parts in question are all interior parts and there isn't a good way to get back-up at this point. They'll take a huge hit until they're back up and running. The F-150 is the flagship for Ford at this point.

I was shocked to hear about the sedans, I wasn't keeping up with sales but I thought small car popularity was growing, I guess not like the ever growing market for oversized vehicles.

I wonder if GM and Chrysler will follow? I hope not as I would expect remaining car manufacturers to raise prices do to less competition?

It will not mean all that much less competition, since the best selling cars in the US are all from Asian majority companies. I don't really buy that Ford is more American than, say, my Kia. My Optima was built in Georgia. Ford's equivalent, the Fusion, was assembled in Mexico.
