The Orville (New Star Trek Spoof Series From Seth MacFarlane)

Did anyone happen to catch The Orville?

It's a comedic take on Star Trek from Seth MacFarlane. I'm not really a fan of his work, but I do like Star Trek. This is like his own weird love letter to Star Trek, but it's all pretty bland. It doesn't bring anything new to the Star Trek part, and the comedy just feels like Seth MacFarlane light.

What did you think?

Here is my full review of the pilot:

I had heard about this, but I dislike MacFarlane so much that I pretty much forgot about it as soon as I had noticed it as a thing.

I don't like him at all so I haven't even considered watching.

As far as I'm concerned Star Trek parody/homage begins AND ends with Galaxy Quest.

The trailer looked decent...well it looked better than the official Big Rod product that's coming out.

I'll be the parrot. I don't like Seth MacFarlane. It immediately made me not interested.

Also, Galaxy Quest is awesome.

I ended up catching most of it on the repeat on Tuesday. I thought the show was fine. Sophomoric in spots, but nothing unexpected.

The special effects seemed above average as far as TV sci-fi goes.

I gave in to morbid curiosity. It wasn't bad but it wasn't spectacular. It looks good, I'll give it that.

It definitely falls into the mediocre but watchable category. The Star Trek side of things is surprisingly nostalgia inducing. But two episodes in and the humor still isn't fully firing.

I heard someone say it's like Star Trek as a sitcom with lower brow humor. It's such a weird mix. The intro scene and it's music are STRAIGHT out of Star Trek TNG....except the dialogue is jokey sitcom stuff.

I haven't watched episode #2 yet. I'm willing to give it four or five before I make a decision.
