KeyboardFreak!!! HELP!!

I know I could'a PM'd this to you, but I bet some other people have some ideas and helpful thoughts.

I was looking in the musician's friend catalog today and was about to call in my order for the Triton I told you I was getting, but then I thought I should take a look at some of the other boards...I shouldn't have. Now I am torn betwixt (my word for between) the Triton Studio, the Yamaha Motif8, and the Roland Fantom.

Here's some pics...

The Tritin looks cooler. That's about all I can say though. I know nothing about keyboards.

I think Karma has the Triton sounds, with the new Karma technology. Did you look into that? Just wondering...

Hey dude... sorry I haven't replied sooner. I've been gone all week. I don't have time to write out a full reply right now, but I'll try to get it done later tonight. The one thing I can recommend is finding a store that carries all of these boards and going and actually playing them.

jmlouie,
Yeah I looked at the Karma, but this is no ordinary Triton. It is the Triton Studio. It has a CD R/W drive, more RAM, more sounds and rhythms, plus, the really good thing is that it has a new 16MB stereo Piano. The Studio also has weighted keys. I've never seen an 88-key Karma. Do they make them?

KeyboardFreak,
I live in Arkansas. There aren't any stores that carry these boards on display. They can order them, but you have to pay up front and can't demo them first. I guess I'll have to go to Texas or something.

Wow..... that stinks. I still would suggest at least playing a board once or twice before you buy it though. However, you don't want to make a multi-hour trip without having any knowledge of what it is you're going to try out. I'd recommend doing as much research as you can on these three boards... and then finding the nearest store that carries them and go try them out.

I still don't have time to really reply yet. My brothers have been on the computer all morning, and I'm about to head off to piano lessons. I'll try to get back on later tonight and type up something. In the meantime, I'd recommend going to www.harmony-central.com and www.sonicstate.com and looking for reviews of these three boards. At least you'll be able to see what others have thought of them.

Hope this helps.

Dude... somehow I forgot about this thread. Sorry, man.... I'll make sure to get back to this. In the meantime, have you had a chance to play any of these boards yet? Or maybe at least have read some reviews?

Ok... some quick thoughts:

The Fantom does not have 88 keys.... it only has 76. If that is a factor, take this into consideration.

The Triton Studio can practically record an entire CD with no external hardware. If that is the sort of thing you're looking for, take this into consideration.

The Triton Studio has a touchscreen... which could be a great thing, or could simply get annoying.. depending on whether you like it or not. Personally, I have no problems pushing buttons and would get annoyed with a touchscreen rather quickly... but that's just me.

I think the Fantom and Motif are geared a little more towards user-friendliness than the Triton Studio. But of course, that means that some functions on the Triton will probably not be on the Fantom and Motif.

Hope this helps.

And I will be back this time.
