Holidays of remembrance and commercialism

This is an issue that has always bothered me, though I admit I'm not entirely sure how to put it here, so I apologize if I sound a bit rambly. Also, I don't know how much this applies in countries aside from the US, though you're obviously welcome to give your thoughts.
Every major holiday, companies across the country throw out gimmicky sales to "celebrate" said holidays. For things like Christmas, Halloween, and Easter, this is something we take for granted, but it has always bothered me how companies use holidays like Memorial Day (today), to advertise sales, solely because of the fact that it's a holiday, in the name of commercialism. This seems incredibly disrespectful, but since it's masked with "patriotism", people just seem to take it for granted.

What are your thoughts? Do you think this kind of thing is unpatriotic?

I personally don't care for it but confess that I have taken advantage of sales and that sort of thing.

Taking advantage of sales is one thing, but using fedral holidays as an excuse for profit was more the issue.

I have less of a problem taking advantage of federal holidays than I do the religious one that have been commercialized.

I think "patriotism" means different things to different people.

Its annoying, but at the same time... sadly it works. People will always do what brings in the most money with the least effort.
