Nintendo Switch

I didn't see a thread on the new Nintendo console.

Does anyone have one yet?

Is anyone thinking about getting one?

What do y'all think about the new console?

Me? I'm pretty sold.

I reckon I will end up getting one eventually. I am really curious about what the future game line-up will be. Obviously, the new Zelda is a big draw. I am super interested in it.

There is also a port of Skyrim, which is cool. But, it is a nearly 6 year old game.

The new Mario game looks amazing.

Beyond those, I am not too sure what is coming out that will be a big draw and help sell consoles.

There are a few lesser known game series that will be out at some point (Xenoblade series), but I doubt they are console sellers. Also, there will be big Indie support, with a good amount of quality control too.

I've been a bit tempted, but with how poorly the support has been for Nintendos last 2 consoles, plus the fact that it's basically launching as a beta(still using friend codes in 2017? And they're charging for online now? And you need a smartphone for half the features???) I'm not likely to pick one up unless there ends up being a lot of 3rd party support.

Breath of the Wild looks cool though(outside of the FPS drops)

The reviews I have read have called it by far the best portable system ever made. That's enough to make me want one. Then, add in Zelda? Yeah, do want.

Did he show it just as a handheld, or did you guys plug it up to a TV?

Was performance a little worse when plugged up to TV?

In theory it shouldn't be since it'd be powered. I'd be interested to see how well it upscales though (particularly to 4K).

I obviously have no first-person experience, but the reviews I have read don't mention any performance drop. Just that it is clearly a big step below XBox One and PS4.

The thing for me is, I want one of these *and* an XBox One. I have neither. I have time for neither.

Well the thing with Nintendo consoles is they've never been on par with the hardware capabilties of either. But that's not really the point - Nintendo produce their own games that (usually) take advantage of the hardware they have available and still make stuff look pretty amazing.

Also, they innovate in crazy ways. People like to talk trash about them for their recent efforts, but they have done so much innovating over the years, they are only making everybody better with their ideas.

That's the other thing. People are like "The Wii controllers are dumb" or "the Wii U sucks" but as an owner of both, the stuff they innovated with Wii (e.g. Wii Sports, Zelda Skyward Sword and Wii Fit) was pretty cool. And having the Wii U screen is super handy while not being able to use it on the TV, or just wanting to squeeze in 10 minutes of playtime before bed.

If anything, it's the fault of the publishers for not utilising the hardware effectively. That said, I was impressed with the Black Ops 2 port - you could use the Wii U screen as a separate screen to the TV (meaning you could have up to 3 split-screens on the TV, and the fourth on the gamepad as a separate one). Also made it a bit harder to screen cheat. :P

If anything, at least Nintendo try to do something different, whereas Sony and Microsoft stick with the safe formula of beefed up hardware and essentially the same controllers.
