Back in the market for effects

I've recently joined a cover band and acquiesced to our worship director's request to play electric at church again. Both decisions were made because I just need that musical outlet again. That said, I'm actually borrowing guitars and amps in both settings, but have no decent effects to use. Starting out, I'm looking to buy:

- Delay (tap tempo, dotted pattern options)
- reverb
- overdrive

It's been a few years that I've been out of the electric gear market, so I'm looking for recommendations. I'm especially concerned about finding a solid delay pedal.

Delay: Truetone (Visual Sound) Dual Tap Delay. Perfect combination of simplicity and versatility. Set up one side for a dotted eighth and the other for a quarter note. Good to go. They might be coming out with an updated model soon. Otherwise, can probably find the current version used pretty cheap.

Reverb: Digitech Polara or TC Hall of Fame for reverb. Again, super simple, but also super versatile. and will get you set up quick for not a lot of money.

Drive: choose your preferred flavor….

Update: I'm borrowing a Boss ME-50 from a guy at church. Right now, mostly using it for compression, reverb, and delay. I did just buy a Ditto last night and it's such a fun looper. I probably should have gotten something that's not a looper first, but, well... https://soundcloud.com/thesomewhat/shoop-da-loop

Sounds like fun. I forget if it's the ME-50 or ME-80, but Alton Brown is using one of them.

I remember Kings of Leon used an ME-50 as a component in their effects chain for a lot of stuff.

So I'm coming up on replacing the ME-50 with a volume and a reverb. Need to find a good volume pedal. For reverb I think I'm going to start out with a Hall Of Fame mini (they're cheap enough and you can customize your settings into pre-sets and use a phone app to load the preset into the pedal on the fly).

But I'm dumb when it comes to volume pedals. Anyone know of a good one?

For the volume pedal, I know several other worship leaders who use the Ernie Ball VP Jr., which I decided to try and so far I love it. It has a Switch inside it that changes the way the volume curve increases from middle to top. The pedal is passive so you don't have to worry about another power supply, and it has a slave tuner output as well as the usual input and output. It seems rugged to me and easy to use. The only poor reviews it gets is of the wire inside it breaking after awhile. For $89, I'm sold. It's big brother sells for $20-$30 more.

I have added a reverb to my chain. Picked up a Descent by Walrus Audio. Pretty impressed with it so far. Gonna have to spend some time figuring it out.

Haha! Starting to get there. You're gonna love the compressor. With the tube screamer and the delay you should get sustain for days. And with the volume pedal, some sweet swells. Just be sure the compressor is first in the chain and the looper is last. Nice power supply by the way.

Thanks! It's set up for: comp -> vol -> OD -> amp -> del -> verb -> vol -> looper -> amp

I was wondering about the two volume pedals. That's a great idea. So the delay, reverb, volume pedal (2) and looper are through your effects loop and the others through the front end?

Yep! The pre-volume pedal is for your usual stuff (volume swells, muting, gain swells). The post-volume pedal is for adjusting levels when layering loops, and for if I just need to play quieter but don't want to sacrifice tone. Also handy for points in a song where everything cuts out except for a guitar (a pre-breakdown, for example) where I want to drop my volume a bit and then slam it loud when the rest of the band comes back in.
