| Acoustic or electric? For acoustics Jasmine's are good for begginers. In my opinion anyway. You can get a Jasmine S-35 for around a hundred dollars. (I've got one and I've been playing for a few years. I can't think of any better guitar for $100) There are a lot of choices out there. Just make sure you play it first. Electrics I can't really help you with.

| Whats your price range? Let us know so we can help you out. JSmith's suggestion is good, but let us know what you can spend. There may be other options out there for you.

| Ok,
Here's some REALLY interesting advice. Don't BUY a brand name that's too good to be true or a cheaper brand of a brand name!(That includes Squire and yes, sorry, but Jasmine, too) I'm 16 and have been playing for 7 years now, and I have the smallest budget in the world. My suggestion is avoid Epiphone, Jasmine, Squire, Rogue, etc., and buy a guitar that HAS to be made good because people just wont buy it for the name. EXAMPLE-
Acoustic-Either a Takamine on an awesome sale, or a Yamaha(you may not like some, but a few have AWESOME tone).
Electric(Trust me on this one)-Get a DeArmonde, straight up, they're a little know co. by a joint Fender/Guild operation. Cheap as dirt and as true as a Gibson studio(almsost). Others are many as long as u don't pay with money or quality for a big name brand.
Have fun! |

You can't go wrong with it. Contrary to what Spydog says there are lots of good guitars out there that are not name brands. The biggest thing you want in a beginer guitar is to feel comfortable. Go and play the guitar before buying, and make sure your comfortable with it. Tone would be next. It's not going to sound like a Taylor or a Martin, but it shouldn't sound like a plastic guitar either. Once you start getting better and have decided if you want to keep playing you can then upgrade to a nicer guitar. BTW Jasmines are very good for there price.

| Yeah I like the go cheap and upgrade later philosophy. If I had to buy a beginners guitar it would probebly be very cheap one. however I didn't have to and when I bought one I had the cash to get a high quality one.
True the tone won't be close to a Martin or a Taylor, but hey then you have womthing to dream about:kgrin: |

| CORT
Solid tops, cheap, nice tone for the coin and comfortable necks.
No I do not own a Cort, but having played enough of them, I am impressed with what you get for the money (I would have laughed about Cort 10 years ago). You should easily be able to find one in your price range. |
