What Would It Take?

To all of you who know this stuff I have a question. What would it take to host and maintain a website like CGR? Tell me EVERYTHING one would need to produce, maintain, and update it.

Hardware
Software
Licenses
Cost (initial & monthly)
Whatever

Based on the number of active users we have, I'm pretty sure we could manage with a $20/mo Digital Ocean droplet running phpbb.

No need to manage servers these days. It's much cheaper and more efficient to use a VPS.

phpbb is free and great.

Could the current site be upgraded and migrate without losing 15+ years worth of stuff?

Pretty sure yes. But I can't say for sure without knowing exactly how big the database is and what kinds of weird hacks CGR has installed.

Thanks for the info. I'm just thinking out loud at the moment.
