Smile Chord notes

Hey this will be just one more thing from that great website, www.mysheetmusic.com that you can definitely use. They have a chord book listed on their website that you can download to your computer and then print if you wish. It is in pdf format and it covers more chords than I will ever use. It is very well organized with all related chords together like the C's (major, minor, diminished, sevenths, etc. It is 15 pages in length. Each chord is shown on a keyboard with the selected notes highlighted in blue. Very easy to understand.

One thing to note is that you have to sign up with them before you access their chord book or sheet music but it's free (which is always good)and relatively easy (even better).

Ok, now; once this is done, you will be able to see the notes to play for any chord. I don't think the inversions are listed there but I'll try to clarify my earlier comments. With the C chord mentioned previously, the notes are C-E-G. The first inversion involves playing the same E-G notes and the next higher C note. Then the second inversion of the C chord will use the same G note from the original C chord and then the next higher C and E note (stretch those fingers). I believe that all inversions generally use the same "pattern" but I can't say for sure.

Hopefully, most of this is right and helpful to you. Well, time to get back to work. Later.

Thumbs up

Alright I went on to the web site and printed everything out but now I need all the extra funky chords like, E5(no3), and then I will be content for now. If some one would help me and also give me as many inversions that I need, I would appreciate it.Thanx

"Extra funky chords", eh?

Ok..... first of all, did you read my very first reply to this thread?? It has a lot of information about "funky" chords.... some of it should prove useful to you.

Well, let me at least tackle the chord you mentioned, E5(no3). E5, E5(no3), and E(no3) are all ways to notate what guitarists usually call "power chords." A power chord is simply the root note (which is whatever note is before the 5(no3), 5, etc... which in this case is E), and then the fifth note above the root note in a scale starting on the root.... which in this case would be B. So... E5(no3) (or either of the other forms) is simply E and B. Invert it, and you'd get B and E.

Really, all of the other funky chords I can think of were dealt with in my first reply. If you can't find what you're looking for in there, just ask and be glad to explain anything more fully.

I understand how to play them but they sound funny to me. Why is that?

It depends on what you're talking about. If you're talking about 5(no3) chords, then they sound funny because they're really meant to be played on guitar.

However, if you're talking about other sorts of "funky chords", it's most likely because you don't know how and when to use them just yet. Most of the funkier of chords sound really strange played by themselves, you really have to put them in context before they start to sound good. I can't be on long, so I can't post too much more... go read my first reply again, I dealt with a lot more than just the formation of chords, I got a little bit into their use as well.

I'll be back later tonight, hopefully.
