I bought a Fenler...

Possibly a horrible decision, but weird and cheap enough that I couldn't resist...

As long as everything works it could be at least decent...40W ish (I'm guessing) tube amp.

Apparently they're referred to as "Servicemen amps" and were sold in the Philippines for GIs during the Vietnam War era.

I have seen one of those once in not working condition. I would really be intrigued as to how that thing sounds. I love that it says vibrator instead of vibrato. that just makes it all the funnier to me.

If the price was right it might be worth it as a practice amp.

I'm really interested in seeing what's actually in it.

Pictures of other versions I've seen online apparently have a pair of 6L6s in the power amp section for roughly 40W of power. This one has a quad of tubes in the power section. A quad of 6V6s could be in the same power range, but a quad of 6L6s would put this in Twin Reverb power territory.

Please update us when you get this. I am genuinely intrigued. Can I say I would find it hilariously awesome if this sounded like a Supro or something?

It showed up last night. There is a really small reverb tank in there. It broke loose during transit (presumably) and broke one of the ECC83s. Unfortunately I haven't been able to figure out where it was connected.

So here's the extra weird.

I have only found a limited number of references to these amps online, and they're all 2x6L6 amps. This amp showed up with a quartet (not matching) of 6P3Cs, which is apparently some sort of Russian version of the 6L6, though it only has 6 pins (vs. the 8 pin of the 6L6). I think this puts the expected wattage in the 60-80W range.

I may turn the reverb down to zero, through a spare tube into the slot where the broken tube was and try to plug it in to a bass cabinet on Sunday. It definitely needs a bunch of work done, so I'm now trying to think of local shops that can do the work and will get a kick out of something this off the wall. I'm hoping to get out to the Satellite Amps shop to talk about my Gammatron and while I'm there I'll probably talk to them about what repair shop they would recommend for this monster amp.

Fascinating.

Pins 1 and 6 are unused on glass-bottle 6L6s, by the way, so some manufacturers don't bother to fit them.

So, I am still wondering what this thing sounds like. Any updates?

I haven't had much time to do anything with it. I need to get a fuse for it before I do anything.
