Britain Exits the EU

In case you haven't heard.

I don't think Cameron had a hope in hell that this would happen.

I've been tuned out on this story as it's developed (stupid bar exam getting in the way of my news reading). Does anybody have a handy article to explain what led up to this and what's expected to happen next?

Thanks, I'll give this a read in the morning. It's past my bedtime now.

Ouch. My portfolio will probably fall quite a bit later today and take a few weeks to recover.

On the other hand, the British economy will have some difficult years ahead of it. As soon as I saw the immense fall of the pound this morning I knew that leave had won

I know nearly nothing about what this means, other than that it's a big deal and has affected the economy significantly over there. I'm looking forward to someone making a helpful cartoon to explain.

Everything over here started the day in red. Banks were all down around 10%. During the day it has gone slowly up, but it will take weeks before we are back to normal.

Been getting messages all day from my bank about not taking rush decisions. They also disabled buying/selling stock from their platform and still haven't posted any data from today. Must be bad.

The bank expert says that it will cause a mini-recession in Europe, but not affect that much globally.

If you are a foreigner that is vacationing in the UK or wants to buy stuff in the UK, it is a good time. If you are a company that trades goods between EU and UK or external country that had an agreement with EU, it is bad for business.

Short term it is terrible. Long term, only time will tell.

I can see this ultimately spelling a breakup of the UK. Scotland overwhelmingly voted Remain, as did Northern Ireland. and a big chunk of north Wales. NI and Scotland have already made noises in their devolved Parliaments about having another seccession referendum.

Lo! How a rose e'er blooming from tender stem hath sprung,
Of Jesse's lineage coming, as seers of old hath sung,
It came a flower bright, amid the cold of winter,
When half-spent was the night.

Isaiah t'was foretold it, the rose I have in mind,
With Mary we behold it, the Virgin Mother kind,
To show God's love aright, she bore to us a Saviour,
When half-spent was the night.

O flower whose fragrance tender with gladness fills the air,
Dispel with glorious speldour the darkness everywhere,
True man, yet very God! From sin and death He saves us,
And lightens every load.

It is interesting to see history play out before our eyes. While I understand the sincere desire to stay a member of the EU, I also understand the desire to leave. There are rationale people on both sides making an argument.
