Mass Shooting in Orlando

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/orl...gunman-n590446

I'm sure everyone has heard, but perhaps up to fifty dead and fifty wounded at Pride celebration in Orlando club...

Lord have mercy. Jesus...

Apparently ISIS is claiming responsibility for the attack, according to a headline on CBS's live broadcast.

This is so horrifying and tragic.

It's like the Paris attacks. I am afraid This, Paris, Brussels, San Bernardino, are only the beginning of a long war between ISIS and the West.

Horrible. My prayers go to the people of Orlando.

Also, why do terrible events bring up the worst in people? My facebook feed is filled with so much hatred. We should be doing the opposite.

Now reports are surfacing saying he was a regular at the club, and was on Gay Dating apps...

Sadly, some of the most hateful when it comes to homosexuality happen to be closeted themselves. Either he was closeted or he was using the visits to scout out the club in preparation for the attack. Whichever is the case, this was horrific.

I do agree that these types of events tend to bring out both the best and worst in people. So many are using this as an excuse to back Trump's plan of not allowing Muslims into the country. That wouldn't have prevented this particular attack as the shooter was born in the U.S. It's important to realize that, while there are many, many terrorists who believe in Islam, not all Muslims are terrorists.

I honestly don't know what the solution is, but I pray we figure out a way to prevent these tragedies from re-occurring over and over again.

Lo! How a rose e'er blooming from tender stem hath sprung,
Of Jesse's lineage coming, as seers of old hath sung,
It came a flower bright, amid the cold of winter,
When half-spent was the night.

Isaiah t'was foretold it, the rose I have in mind,
With Mary we behold it, the Virgin Mother kind,
To show God's love aright, she bore to us a Saviour,
When half-spent was the night.

O flower whose fragrance tender with gladness fills the air,
Dispel with glorious speldour the darkness everywhere,
True man, yet very God! From sin and death He saves us,
And lightens every load.

I'm not saying in this instance that people should have been armed since a lot of alcohol is involved in clubs, but what if the manager and/or bartenders had firearms immediately available to them. It could have been a lot different.

Think of all the tragedies with guns that could be prevented if the government would stop passing gun control laws and started letting people adequately defend themselves..

Do you know of any instances where a mass shooting was stopped or prevented by a civilian with a gun? It may be that this happens and just doesn't get reported on, but in the absence of real-life examples, it's a little hard for me to buy this argument.

Yes, and if you use google, they are easy enough to find.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...ass-shootings/

And I am sure it happens a lot more than these instances, having myself had to use a gun to prevent a murder. (Note, nobody got shot, I used it to hold a guy with a bat at bay from his prey for the 19+ minutes it took police to respond to the 911 call that included the fact he was stabbed.)

I tweeted a bunch of stories earlier today (@nick_ekwall). One happened just this last week in South Carolina.

Here's another:
Augusta police: Legally armed bystanders break up Walmart shooting | WCSH6.com

Looking into these more recently have shifted my views of American gun laws; I mean, we've barely had any tragedies here since gun control came in, but I definitely can see the merit of the points American conservatives are making.

Also interesting to bring up in regard to this topic is this apparent suggestion from Al Qaeda:
Al Qaeda to jihadis:

Fair enough. Again, I thought there might be way more stories that hadn't generated very much attention. Sometimes it just feels like every time the "hero civilian shooter" argument comes up, it's made in purely hypothetical terms and that gets frustrating very quickly. Real-world examples like these are much more compelling.

There are more that never get told because no shots were fired. Simply brandishing your firearm (when legally justified) can deter criminals.
