Doxacon Seattle: Christian Sci-fi/Fantasy Convention in Seattle June 24-26

Hey all. I know some of y'all live in and around Seattle and might be interested in this. I'm gonna try my hardest to make it.

Doxacon is a project that some Orthodox Christian folks (some of whom are my friends) from around the PNW collaborated on (and Washington DC, where the other Doxacon takes place) who love science fiction and fantasy and are interested in exploring how these ideas relate to our faith as Christians. Though the event is Orthodox sponsored, absolutely everyone is most welcome and the stuff talked about would be comprehensible, I think, to any Christian who was as much of a giant nerd as the people who organize Doxacon . Several people who've spoken there are my friends and there's a possibility my pastor may be one of the presenters this year (he's a huge sci-fi nerd)

seattle doxacon

I was thinking this might be a cool event for some Seattle (and environs?) CGR folks to meet up at?

Archives for the talks at previous Doxacon Seattles are here:

**Are you a Christian who enjoys speculative fiction (i.e. science fiction and/or fantasy)? Are you tired of scifi/fantasy/gaming conventions that ignore the Christian dimensions of these works?**

Doesn't it? I hope there are a few CGR Seattleites (Seattlians?) who can go to this.

I think BSPE lives near Portland. I wonder if he'd come up for this. Beanbag and Noelle/SCCHarpGirl are from that area too.

I have wanted to get into more Christian SF, but so often is is poorly made. I feel like there is a bigger world for it than I know of, but the Platonic form for Christian Sci Fi has always been A Canticle for Leibowitz, for me. Some of Ray Bradbury's stuff always had interesting and well done Christian themes as well.

Sounds like you would fit right in. Any chance you could buy a return ticket from London to Seattle in the next two months?

Sure, I'd be down for that! I'll let you know when I'm in town.

They also might let you sit in on one or two of the sessions without paying the reg fee Or at least come to Vespers (Evening Prayer), which is a worship service and thus shouldn't turn anyone away.

I have no earthly idea what my job schedule looks like. (I am in the process of changing jobs.) I doubt I could make it as my new schedule is going to involve 5 evenings a week. (I don't know which ones yet though.)
