And for that same reason.. is why i don't like the church's acoustic. It's a Martin DCME, not too shabby. pretty pricy, but it has the WORST (in my opinion) electrics i've seen in a while. It only has 3 sliders; bass, treble, volume. i think that's just terrible.
to me.. electrics.. can really change the sound of a guitar in a way.

I've got all that in my Fender. Great tone, good electrics(it comes stock with Fisherman electrics :kgrin: ). All that without the hefty price of a Taylor.

LOL,
DID ANYONE NOTICE TAYLORS AREN"T UNDER $400 DOLLARS!?!
of course taylor is best, everyone knows that, but he asked for a value....
DON"T GET SQUIRE, EPIPHONE, ROGUE, JASMINE, and copy brands like those....
GO TAKAMINE(try 530 or 330(330's not solid top, but still good)), YAMAHA(laugh but they've got awesome tone, well, some if u get lucky), or mabye a Fender, but theyr'e not the best for undre $400....]]

P.S.-Yes, solid top is most important, but also, for $400, if it IS a solid top, other corners WILL be cut to bring the sound quality down to a good non-solid-top...

Happy playin!

Here I disagree. Epiphone makes some awesome guitars. Thats what most of the guys in Third Day play. My Jasmine plays and sounds better then a lot of the guitars I've played. And I'm not talkin' about cheap ones either.

I totally agree with BowoW. Good electronics in even a Johnson guitar will make it sound like a more expensive quitar than what it is. Not just the preamp/Eq, but the pickup also.

I have an Ovation Custom Legend with the top-of-their-line electronics and can compare it to my friends older Ovation with a simple preamp and volume knob. Although his still sounds pretty good, the better electronics are most obvious.

I've even taken my old cheap Fender F-3 and added decent electronics from K & K Sound and it has a wonderful sweet tone through the sound system that it never dreamed of in it's long dull life as a non-electric dust collecting clothes hanger.
