Alcoholic friend

Hi all,

I have a friend who is an alcoholic. Last night, I witnessed him have a relapse with one person who should really have known better than to let him relapse, and one person he concealed the full extent of his alcoholism to, from our church. I stayed with him, prayed with him, and slept over to make sure he was okay.

He is supposed to be under an obedience from his spiritual father and confessor (if that language weirds you out: he is an Orthodox Christian, (and I am considering becoming one) part of how we understand repentance in our Tradition is regular confession and accountability to a spiritual father, who is usually our parish priest) not to touch alcohol. He disobeyed that obedience.

Please pray that he's able to not let despair at this relapse destroy him spiritually, and that God would give him repentance and give our pastor, Father Justin, wisdom in how to counsel him. Thanks!

Definitely will be praying for him.

Thanks, BSPE. He went to an AA meeting last night. This is a good sign.

I will pray for him. Alcoholism is an ugly beast.
