Employment and Income

So.... my job's being readvertised for next week, so I have to reapply if I want to keep it. As far as my work so far has gone, and the fact they don't generally get many applicants, I'm not 100% fearful, but there is still the possibility I won't get it.

And should I not get it, and I don't find a suitable job elsewhere, I'll be out of income until about March when I can resume a full load of study and get government support (probably about $400 a fortnight).

Interestingly enough, the job is also being advertised as temporary (January-December) so I'm probably going to have to jump through the same hoops this time next year.

So yeah... prayer would be much appreciated.

--------

EDIT: I got the job! Huzzah! Thanks so much!

Thank you

All through lunch yesterday I was getting:
"Are you leaving us at the end of the year?"
"Are you getting an assistant?!"

I'm like "No... that's just my job. I have to reapply for it." and then got sympathetic "Oh the feels" kind of looks. I was talking to one teacher who's been there a while who said he had to re-apply for his job about 3 times because the only qualification he didn't have was teaching RE (he teaches science and maths).

That sounds like a huge hassle and a lot of stress. I'll be praying for you.

Tell them it's not financially worth their time to hire a new person who wouldn't know their systems. Promote something about the value of longevity.

But yeah, the feels bro. You got it.

I would, but I've only been there 3 months, the previous guy wasn't there longer than 12, and the one before him was only there a few.

So... don't think that argument would carry any weight.

The network is handled by the overseeing office in a bigger town a few hours away (they do the whole region including the school in the town I actually live in). So pretty much if you get stuck you can ask them anyway.

So my real competition would be someone who looks as good (or better) on paper and interviews really well. That said, I spoke to the Principal a week or so back and he said a few people applied for the job when I did and as soon as they'd finished interviewing me I pretty much had the job. :P

Ahhh IT seems to be handled very differently there than here. Most places here prefer to have their own dedicated IT guy, which is why it's such an in-demand job. It's why, even with my lack of skills, I've almost always been offered some form of IT work or another. I know very little about networking (though I'm a fast learner when I need to be), I don't know linux, and don't even ask me to code anything. Yet I'm still the IT assistant for a local media company (slash audio production assistant, but that's neither here nor there).

But, it looks like you are in good running to renew your employment there.

Well... it's just this particular diocese of the Catholic schools that have made this decision for whatever reason (maybe it's because I'm not Catholic... they're onto me!). Because the network at large is handled by the overseeing office, and most questions get fielded through helpdesk, they might feel they might be able to get away with it.

But from my understanding they do want someone permanent... so I have no idea what's happening...

Accidentally saw an application email from a guy who was doing this job about 1.5-2 years ago. A bit more worried now.

Yikes.

As a (former) IT that sounds frustratingly awkward and unsettling. I'll pray for ya, GH

Thanks, man. It's a bit annoying because the principal at the primary school really wants to keep me, and everyone here seems happy with me. He was here for about 7 months (because he had an uncommon name I gave into curiousity and stalked his LinkedIn account). But he's been in the system at other places for the last few years and seems to have a pretty good head on him (as far as I can tell from what I've seen). He's about a year or two younger than me.

So hopefully this is where God wants me and I get the job. Otherwise the next few months will be interesting.

Totally forgot to post! They narrowed down the interview shortlist to 1 candidate (i.e. me) and I was offered the job in the first 10 seconds. :P

So yeah, thanks for your prayers! It was much appreciated!
