A Little Help Figuring out Key/Scale

I should start off to say music theory is not exactly my strength. I have a song for worship this week that has a lot of different chords in it. I'm looking to throw a lead break in the middle because it's a shorter song. But I'm having trouble figuring out what scale to use for the lead. I usually just play notes on a minor pentatonic scale (I read through some of the first sticky here, I know there's more to life than that). I'm having a hard time figuring out what key this song even is. The chord progressions are:

G Am G
D Em A D
D7 G D G
C D Am G

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The song is in the key of G. You can tell because it has major chords G, D and C, and the fact that the first and last chords are G provides further evidence.

This means the A on line 2 should probably be an A minor. An A major is weird in the key of G.

The minor corresponding to G is Em, so an Em pentatonic could possibly work, but I would suggest given that this is in a major key not a minor one, to use a major scale. The G major pentatonic should make things fairly simple.

Thanks. I was trying the E Minor Pentatonic at practice, which I thought would sound right but it just didn't for some reason. Maybe I was just having an off night and was fingering the wrong notes.

Sounds right. You guys are ahead of me on theory. I just find something by ear, usually starting out with the inverted chord.

BTW, What is the song you're working up?
