Do you wash your hands before you play and wipe down your strings when you stop playing? Dr. Stringfellow string cleaner is good stuff and I've used it for many years.

best acoustic strings that last the longest?

for me, it's D'addario EXP series coated phosphor bronze strings.
They last for a month being played regularly and still sound amazing.
I only change them coz i feel i should not because something audibly tells me they need to be changed.

prefer these over elixirs every day of the week

Check out the Martin Lifespan SP strings if you are interested in strings that will last longer.
I think the SP's do a better job of keeping the acousticness of the strings/guitar intact over a longer period of time. I've tried Elixir's and I found they sound compressed and less open to dynamics and chord tone.

The best strings are always the ones your guitar sounds the best with though.
