Learning songs with tab sheets

Hello,

I prefer the tablature method of playing guitar but I'm having a diificult time learning how to memorize songs I'm familiar with.

In order to learn a song I see that one has to keep an eye on the sheet music, another on the left hand fret position, and one more on the right hand picking the strings. Which of these 3 components should I focus on to memorize on to memorize a song?

Thank you much

Hi moyers,

I'm going to move this thread to a forum where it will be seen by the members of our site more likely to be able to help you. (You posted in the Cheap Post Forum, which is kind of our goofing-off area.)

Early in my journey with guitar and TAB, I would "visually" memorize 5 or 6 notes and then look down at my guitar and play them, and then piece in the next 5 or 6 notes, It seem slow and frustrating at first but after time a few things start to happen,

You start building muscle memory in you picking hand, and won't feel like you have to look at it,
Your EAR will start to develop you begin to HEAR what to do instead of pulling it from memory

Appreciate your feedback which is very helpful. So what I believe you're saying is the picking hand can take care of itself so it's best to watch the fretting hand as you play?

with time and practise you won't have to look at your picking hand
