Andorra (Philly local band)

Andorra

I just heard this band Saturday at a house show. The place was packed -- not typical of of house shows -- and there were four bands playing: The Subtractive, Andorra, the Skis, and Sonnder. I know the Skis personally, but I never heard of the others until then.

Andorra stood out to me as a pretty solid start up. They have great hooks, many reminiscent of Nirvana. I can't help but make that association because their style in general seemed like modern rock with a grunge accent. One of the vocal hooks reminds me of a transposed Nirvana hook but wasn't; one of their baselines reminds me of Come as You Are but different pattern of the same notes. Unlike modern rock, if they have cheese they are conscious of it like the bands famous in early 90s alt rock.

I bought their CD "etc, etc, etc..." and I am glad I did. It is great to hear the studio version: it is, of course, more crisp, polished.

On their website you can listen to the album I bought (which has many songs from their set list), as well as stuff from their other albums/EPs.
