A Fret wrap question for all?

Okay so I was gonna put this in the bass section but since guitarists can use them too, I'm gonna ask it here generally because its a weird issue I'm having. I bought them for a few reasons, for tapping, for the times I fail at muting, and for just string ringing that happens. Well I apply them and noticed they make my notes go sharp. Kind of like a capo. The open strings are the sharpest even with very little pressure, the fretted notes are alittle sharp. I'm not sure why and have never seen anyone else with this issue and I've searched everywhere.

So I was messing with it on my new strings and I thought that was the issue so I pulled out my other Ibanez bass and it made those sharp too, its strings are 3 months old. So I'm at a dumbfounded state. I really like the way the fret wrap idea because unlike hair ties its specifically aimed toward the instrument. So if you guys got any idea on why this is happening I'd love to hear them haha. Alot of my friends are confused too because you can adjust them to apply very very little pressure. This makes them not have as much of a palm mute sound rather just a controlling ringing function.

Again if you guys got any ideas I'd love to hear them because I'm pretty confused.

Hmm...any chance you're putting them on too tightly?

That's what I thought but they're barely on at all like I put it through the little piece and then barely have it tight at all just enough for it to be like fastened.

I don't know enough about the product to be honest. can you retune after you put it on, or does that not really work since you have to be able to slide it on and off?

It's weird I tune it down and then when I play fretted notes those are flat because it's tuned flat. It's so weird I've never seen anything like it

I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question but, for the newly stringed guitar, did you stretch the strings? They will go flat as they stretch.

And for both guitars, are they properly set up for intonation without the fretwrap installed?

If both questions' answers are yes I'd maybe try re-intonating the guitar with the fretwrap installed.

No I totally was suspecting it might be one of those. I might have to give that a shot after letting them break in and I didn't stretch them this time for some reason. Your question is actually a good one so thanks for the input.
