The name "smart car' is used to reinforce this fact: you are simply an unintelligent, unenlightened, mouth-breathing neanderthal if you are not on board with the idea of getting rid of cars as we know them today. Full size trucks, mid to full size cars, performance vehicles, etc. are all very bad things.

Techincally, you better not be refering me. Anyway, this smart car probably doesn't do good in a car crash test. I don't know. Do I need to?

They do fine in crash tests.

I've stopped caring about crash tests. They're irrelevant to me. I ride motorcycles any time I want to actually have a good time. My general strategy is as follows:

Don't. Crash.

Oh. Well, I don't know about their details. But, still, they could crumble into a ball with you inside.

That's not really how it works.

You mean with that car? Real car crashs give you back pain and a destroyed car.

With any car. They don't crumple into balls. They use crumple zones and cages to protect the people inside from being squished.

The vast majority of car accidents I have seen (which is a lot) have no injuries. The ones that do have injuries do not tend to be back pain.

Yeah, I see a lot of car crashs over here. It's weird. Yeah, then there's the fatal car crashs. Those ones are the ones that end awfully.

You seem to unable to separate size and safety. I'm not saying the smart car is a particular safe car, but there are many small cars with excellent safety ratings and many large cars that are terrible.

Below is a link to a consumer report article. They're pretty reputable. The article, to an extent, supports your supposition that bigger cars are safer but also points to exceptions. It's an interesting read.

Safest and the Most Lethal Late-Model Cars - Consumer Reports

I have a Consumer Reports magazine. It says that Fiat is very not reliable. And there are some cars that are big and have bad reliability scores. So, there's are some differences between cars.

The joy for me in this thread is similar to what I feel in a house of mirrors. If you aren't familiar with facts, you may be fooled by the skewed reflections around you. For instance; Smart is a brand owned by Mercedes Benz. Smart cars perform well in crash tests. Smart cars only return decent fuel economy during low speed commutes. Smart cars are unique in that the FourTwo is short enough to be able to park nose-in to a curb without sticking out past the cars parked around it.

In summation, most of you are well spoken and correct. But one of you is making for some wacky funhouse mirror entertainment.

Smart cars were first designed to be a "smart" choice for people in the Euro markets where fuel efficiency and diesel power are applauded and a small footprint on the street gets you knighted by the Queen.
Here in America...where the Smart got Americanized...it's not really a smart choice at all unless you live and work in the city and want to park in motorcycle spaces.
