Forget a "smart" car.

Cars don't need to be intelligent. Cars need to have soul.

In reality, cars are mostly a lost cause.

I'm not sure I agree. Add enough safety techno-wizardry, and idiot people become dependent on it and stop paying attention.

This is how we end up playing "dodge the SUV" while riding a motorcycle.

No it's not.

In 2013, 21,268 people died in car accidents in the US. 4,381 died on motorcycles. About half of motorcycle fatalities are not the fault of the motorcyclist, but are caused by a car violating the motorcycle's right-of-way.

Half of 4,381 is about 2,190. Add that to the car fatality number, and 23,458 fatalities were caused by cars, while only 2,191 fatalities were caused by motorcyclists.

How does that compare to the number of people who ride a motorcycle every year vs. the number of people who ride in a car each year?

Motorcycles seem a lot more dangerous than regular cars. To me it does.

GM recalled so many cars. Did that link to many fatalies?

Extremely unlikely.

I couldn't find those numbers... but a relevant stat is probably fatality/mile.

In 2011, it's estimated that per mile driven, there were 30 times more fatalities on motorcycles than there were for car occupants.

There is definitely more risk of severe consequences if you do have an accident.

You're right, that's probably a better measurement.

Not even. The 3cyl engine actually uses more fuel than would the 4cyl engines in most compact cars. Smart cars are like the iPads of the transportation world: they're trendy and sleek, but pretty useless.

Even Smart can't become a small Tesla. See, thanks Ben . Smart is just a company that wants money by making a stylish crap cars. It's stupid but that's my theory of how they fool the world. I guess.

I think we are agreeing but using different words.
