US equivalents of UK qualifications

So I was wondering if any of you know the equivalents of UK qualifications in America?
At high school (aged 11-16) we study for our GCSEs which I'm going to be taking in a few weeks. Then we go to college (aged 16-18) where we study for our A levels. Then it's obviously university for a degree.
At GCSE the highest grade you can get is an A* down to a U or something. Same for A level.
If any of you do understand the UK and US systems, could you explain how they work and tell me: if someone was to get 4 grade As at A level, what would that be in America with the standard scores or whatever it is?
Thank you! I've been looking at American universities and don't understand the admissions, hence this question

Hey Jaffa, let me check some of the sources I used when applying in the other direction (US to UK) an dget back to you. But, as a first step, it may be helpful to contact the admissions people at the specific universities and ask them if they even want you to include a conversion in your application.

When applying for the UK I had a few tell me not to try to convert, but to just let them know what I had in the US system and that they would do it themselves. So, some of the US universities may want the same from you.

Our grades are A, B, C, D and F (highest to lowest)

I would assume that four grade As at A level would be the same as getting four As in a US high school, however I know most post-secondary (college/university) schools in the US handle foreign students using different methods.

It may help to understand how it works for American students applying to American universities. We use the terms "college" and "university" pretty interchangeably here, but I'll use "university" for clarity.

High school is the last part of mandatory schooling - it's four years, typically attended from the ages of 14-18. Just before the last year of high school, students who want to go on to university will take one of two standardized tests, the ACT or the SAT (which one they take largely depends on what part of the country they live in). These tests aren't part of their standard classes; they're taken separately. Students' scores on those tests, plus their grades in their regular high school classes, are the major factors considered by universities. Students who decide not to go on to university just finish their classes, take some final exams, get their high school diploma, and they're done.

I imagine most major American universities have information on their specific websites for international applicants. Do you have any idea which universities you're considering?

Oops I totally abandoned this thread... And CGR for that matter :/ I never ever get push notifications any more and even when I remember to come on cgr like right now, it never says which threads have been updated.

Anyway, this was helpful. I was looking at Biola university because it just looks awesome! But Dad said no because admission fees are way more than in the UK and I couldn't get student loans.
Nevertheless, I might want to work in America in a few years or something so this info is all super helpful.

I have my Master's from Biola actually. I have some friends from there who went from the UK. If you are really interested I would specifically talk to them about the international student scholarships and such. There really are quite a few tools at your disposal there that can cut the cost dramatically.

International Students ‹ Undergrad | Biola University

I'd check it out there and see if that changes anything. (Scholarships, etc.)
