I'm having a hard time with noise in my recordings. I've read about reducing room noise and then gating after recording, but I'm wondering if there are any reasonably priced hardware options that would allow full clarity in the recorded signal without noise.

I use an Audio Technical Pro 37 on my guitar and a SM58 for vocals, with a little 2-channel Tapco USB interface.

Are you using cables with XLR at both ends to connect your microphones? Sometimes an impedance mismatch can add lots of noise.

You might want to post a sample of the noise. If it is microphone "self noise", it will sound different than "room noise" or if you have a faulty component.

Do you have the Tapco link.USB? There are quite a few reviews out that say that it seems to add a lot of noise.

I don't know the exact model of the Tapco, but the noise did sound like an old radio trying to dial into a frequency. Like, it had that oscillating whistle in the background. And it mostly produced it while running the phantom power (which the mic required). I presumed it was a bad component inside of the interface and simply ordered a new M-Audio M-Track Quad.
