Not sporting one these days. I keep it at about a week's worth of stubble and then trim it down.

I decided to bring back a little something. This was about a week ago. I keep it trimmed and the sides clean.

So, I use a couple different oils (one bought from Amazon, gift from my wife, forget the brand, the other I mix myself), and a wax (same brand as one before, I'll check on it later). And I brush my beard with a military brush every night. It's working out really well for me. Before my beard was rough and my skin was dry, but now it's not.

I oil it after my morning shower and before bed, and make sure that the beard is wet when I do (it makes a world of difference). I brush it before bed. In the mornings I comb it. And I use the wax either when my beard gets unruly, and after I get out of the shower at the gym.

My night oil is the one I mixed, the other smells better, BUT, here's how I make it:

1 standard bottle (34 oz?) grape seed oil.
1 Small bottle (12 oz) argan oil
5 TSP Tea Tree Oil
1/2 TSP Cedar or some other aromatic essential oil (this stuff can a bit caustic, so too much is BAD for your skin, a little though, is great for you, makes you smell good), peppermint and almond really good too. This is optional. I find that the above mixture without it smells a bit weird and can be off putting if you have to share your bed at night or if you're using this during the day.
1 shot of whiskey or beer if you want to smell really manly

I mix them in a large bowl with a whisk for a few minutes, then store it in an old whiskey bottle that I didn't rinse out because it made it smell pretty darn good, and manly.

I guess I need to read through this again.

Giving it one more honest try before forsaking it forever.

Here's my baby beard

I keep it trimmed to this length because it looks weird on me when it's any longer, but I'm hoping it eventually comes in fuller around my mouth

To those of you here who do have beards, what do you use (if anything) to help them grow more full? I have seen all sorts of suggestions and was wondering if anyone on CGR has experience or advice.

I have recently started taking Biotin because the doctors told Robin that she may want to take it in case she were to have any hair loss as a result from her gastric by-pass surgery. After reading up on it I found that some say it also helps facial hair grow in more full.

I want a full beard and have struggles with these patchy places on my cheeks my entire life.
I have the genetics that Taliban guys seek. If anyone comes up with an idea that would make my thick hair come in slower... (Mine also has the consistency of a barbecue cleaning brush. It is like thick, stiff wire. I have a goatee mostly to hide the fact that I cannot stay with the appearance of being clean shaven for more than a couple hours.

I have decided to give it until November. I'll keep the edges trimmed and clip and renegade hairs. I'll reassess things before No Shave November begins.

Here's the real secret. It has been passed down for generations. It never, ever fails. If you want to have a good, thick beard you just do the exact same thing you need to do to have a good, thick head of hair on top. Pick ancestors who had good beard genes.

Perfect Beards

Haha!

Very few beards grow perfectly, and the ones that do look false!

Go with what ya got, and ask others (wife, first!) how long it should be. Too much time in front of a mirror can't be healthy.

My "weapon of choice" is a Panasonic rechargeable trimmer, set for 7-5-3 mm, and a little disposable razor to clean up the scuzz. Once a week (before Sunday service) sometimes twice if there is a special occasion. My beard gets as filled out as ever will be, minimum fuss ... consistency counts.

IMHO YMMV

I'm trying. I really am. I told myself I'd wait until Halloween but I just don't know. NaNoWriMo and No Shave November start the next day so maybe I should go until December. That would definitely be the longest I've ever gone without shaving.

FWIW...I still haven't tried any beard products. I do shampoo it and comb it though.
