Ten games ago I wasn't convinced that they could finish a perfect season.

Now?

Hmmmm.

Odds are still against it. All I want is a championship, lol.

Same here; this is shaping up to be a very special season. Calipari has done a great job getting such talented young players to share the ball. So many would be playing much longer minutes elsewhere, and getting more publicity as a result. So many would not choose to be part of a team rather than a star somewhere else. Props to the coaches and players.

What if they win every game...but the very last one?

Neither may be the best team around...but UNC and Duke still put on the best show in all of college basketball.

Last night was one for the books. The wrong shade of blue prevailed...but they still have to make that eight mile trip to Chapel Hill.

I thought the pre-game moment of silence in memory of Dean Smith was a classy move. For one brief moment we ceased hating one another. That was nice.

Yeah, I'm not sure how Cal and his staff manage it. Of course you have to give the kids a lot of credit themselves. They're humble enough to buy in.

Has there ever been a 39 win season? It would be good, of course. But also heartbreaking.

Illinois had 37 in 2005 and your boys had 38 in 2012.

Kentucky crushes Auburn, 110-75.

BTW, check this pass + dunk out: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=12361442

They are looking unstoppable right now.

Last undefeated team was Bobby Knight's 1976 Indiana Hoosiers. We'll see if this group takes that from them.

Not sure how the SEC tourney is bracketed, but it seems if they go all the way, winning both tourneys, they would be 40-0, and that is something that may never happen again!

The Kentucky Wildcats are rated a 95.2 on ESPN's BPI (basketball power index) metric. This is nearly four full points higher than the next team on the list (Virginia at 91.8—followed by Gonzaga [91.2], Wisconsin [90.5], and Arizona [90.1]). And according to Ken Pomeroy's statistical algorithms, Kentucky's defense is ranked #2 while their offense is ranked #7. So, while the nuances of these ratings can be debated, the fact remains that Kentucky's defense is astonishingly good while their offense, despite often being overshadowed by their defensive performance, is still among the top 10 in the nation.

So yeah, they certainly can look unstoppable at times. Of course ultimately all that matters is the 40 minutes of basketball between the tip and the final buzzer. Kentucky could still lose on any given night. The talent level is perhaps unrivaled but this is a young team. To date they've answered every challenge but all it takes is one off night to end the undefeated streak. And, should such an off night occur during the big dance, it means the end of the season altogether.

That said, I'd love to see Bob Knight's head explode if we pull it off.

As I mentioned in a previous post, statistically speaking, the odds are still against the Wildcats achieving a perfect season (even if they're heavily favored in each individual game). So, while I don't have my hopes up for such a thing happening, it's certainly looking like a more plausible outcome than it did before the season began. And if it does I'm sure the program and fanbase will seem even more insufferable than it already does to lots of other college basketball fans, lol. Kentucky is already the winningest program ever (both in terms of absolute wins and winning percentage), already has more national titles than anyone outside of UCLA, already has dozens of other historical accolades (see here). So...yeah. We UK fans are spoiled rotten.

BTW, 29-0.

Kentucky beats #18 Arkansas, 84-67. Phil Jackson was in attendance. Maybe scoping out which player he'll select in the NBA draft?

Only two games remain in the regular season. Next Tues we play @ Georgia, and next Sat we play a home game against Florida. If we win both we'll be heading into the SEC tournament with a 31-0 record. And if we come out of that unscathed, we'll see how far we extend the streak into the NCAA tourney. At that point we'll have to remain undefeated if we want to take home our 9th championship.

Not trying to jinx you but...I think UK will finish up the regular season undefeated and make a deep run in the tourney but fall short in the Elite Eight or Final Four.

I don't know why I think that...I just do.

I don't believe in jinxes. Which, by the way, is an interesting part of the sports subculture. I read a few college hoops forums and some of the people there just believe the most ridiculous stuff can influence the outcome of a game.
