dogfood's youth games thread

basically games for youth and younger have been my specialty over the year. I will attempt to capture some of them here and also hopefully inspire people to post others in here.
my philosophy on games is that you can pretty much play anything but make it more fun with some sort of twist in it.

Quiddich Pong

What you'll need:

- 2 tables
- 1 ping-pong ball
- Some homemade Quiddich hoops (about 8-10" in diameter) (a quiddich hoop is actually a series of three hoops set up in a triangular fashion. These hoops should be placed on poles, or attached to each other and mounted on a pole. The center hoop is slightly raised and is worth 2 points, the side hoops are only worth 1 point each.

Objective:
Score by bouncing the ball across two tables and through your opponents hoops.

Setup:

Set up the tables about 3-4 feet apart. Set up the hoops about 2-3 feet from each table.
From end-to-end of the playing area, it would go: HOOPS - TABLE - TABLE - HOOPS

Each player takes turns standing (or kneeling) next to his or her hoops and bouncing the ping-pong ball across both tables in an attempt to pass the ball through the opponents hoops. You can either play to a certain score (21 would seem decent), or do a timed play, where the person with the most points after a certain amount of time wins.

Frisbee Soccer

Equipment: Frisbee, People

Playable anywhere. Emphasis on anywhere. Same as soccer except you pass the Frisbee. Person with Frisbee cannot run. Points scored by hitting a selected target.

Soccer Volleyball

What you need: volleyball, net, people

Basically volleyball, except you can't use your hands, it's all legs and feet. Hilarity ensues.

All I use at the moment is Jungle Speed. :P That said, my "youth group" is a cell group that only 3 boys attend so... one day I might get more creative.

Only the best and most violent card game ever invented.

Basically it's like snap, but the aim is to get rid of all your cards. All your cards have a coloured symbol on them, and you flip a card out and watch for that symbol to appear in someone else's pile. If you find a match, you grab a totem in the middle. The first one to grab it passes his cards on to the loser. If the totem is grabbed at the same time by both people all hell breaks loose and a mad power struggle breaks out until the totem is successfully pulled from the other person's hand

There's lots of other things, like a few wild cards that mean different things, (e.g. a card that, for as long as it is in play, means you look for colour matches rather than symbol matches). Each symbol card usually has at least one other card that looks almost identical (such as a symbol pattern that may be Octagon Square Octagon, there's another one that goes Circle Square Circle (and thus look very similar at a glance)).

It's quite a lot of fun.

Noodle or Newspaper Hockey.

Big plastic noodle that you whack people in a swimming pool with or rolled up newspaper. and taped together to look like a stick.

line up two teams and number them off. call out a number then let the two people with that number whack a ball into their designated goals... or each other
