Replying to Posts as Public Shaming

Imagine this scenario:

Someone is wrong on the internet
This person is obviously wrong
But does he know it? Does he feel stupid for being stupid? Does he feel foolish for being foolish? Does he feel out of step with society because of his divergent, dumb views?

Time for shaming.

In the form of a reply, a corrective response so that you feel better about this imbalanced world and so that person must retreat in shame.

Free publicity. Functional omnipresence. Anonymous shaming.

Let's do it. Who's the target? Donald Trump? You're an idiot, Trump!

So are you asking whether ridicule is ever justified? If it's petty internet argument stuff, probably not. If the person is dangerous and powerful...maybe.

Am I in the ballpark?

Or, are you asking whether commenting itself on the incorrectness of a view is an immoral act because we cause the person shame in the public realm?

I think if there is one thing I have learned from my time on here it is to always strive to be generous and kind in my responses, showing grace and love to even those things that may strike us as moronic at first glance.
