Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God (RC)

Song I wrote for my new grungy band about super righteous, angry fundamentalists. Yes, the title is lifted from Jonathan Edwards, I hear he was a real joy to be around.

--Intro--
[4 clean, 4 distorted]

--Verse--
Oh brother Christian
You think you know me
but I must confess
you've always suspected
what was always true
I'm twisted and evil
sorry to disappoint you

--Pre-Chorus--
but I know that my name
is ever on your breath
every time you pray
until the hour of my death

--Chorus--
'cause I'm a sinner
In the hands of an angry God
and I am reaping
what I deserve, yeah

--Verse--
Oh brother, I'm sorry but
I'm not done, I'm afraid
I'm just getting started

--Pre-Chorus--
I've lied me whole life through
i'm a coward and a thief
I've swindled and traded
my values and beliefs

--Chorus--
I'm a sinner
In the hands of an angry God
I am wicked and without remorse

--Pre Chorus--
I can feel the flames crawling up my back
I'm in the palms of the almighty and I've incurred his wrath

--Guitar Solo--

--Bridge--
[8 times]

--Pre-Chorus--
Abandon all hope, he who hath sinned
for there is no salvation for you are not with him

--Chorus--
look at us sinners
In the hands of an angry God
what is our recourse
to appease a vengeful God

--Chorus again--
look at us sinners
who need a forgiving God
But that's too easy
for your angry God

Ugh, that's terrible, but a starting point.

Re-attempt at verse 1

Verse 1:

Avert your eyes,
for I am unworthy of your gaze.
Your pious eyes
should not be stained,
with the sight of something so profane

Verse 2:
Oh Sister Christian
What can I do, to appease you
I am prostrate, in your presence
a heathen begging for your forgiveness

Bridge 2:

You've labeled me a liar,
and a cheat, and that's all true
whatever can I do,
I'm rotten through and through

really hate the last two lines of the chorus... gonna work on that next

I really don't like the holier-than-thou angle I'm going for here, it just seems, played and cliche... the more I think about it, I hate this entire song. But I need to salvage something, I just need lyrics, anything at all right now to sing because I have no lyrics for just about any of my songs.

I like the pre-chorus the best.

That is literally the only part I like.

I realized that my post was still a little vague. I'm specifically talking about this one:

I've lied me whole life through
i'm a coward and a thief
I've swindled and traded
my values and beliefs

Jonathan Edwards was one of the greatest preachers in all of Christian history.

The whole point of that sermon was that we are all condemned unless God has saved us.

It'd be cool to rework it to be a little closer to the intent of the original, maybe. Talk about how we're all sinners in the hands of an angry God until He saves us.
