Get Your USA Ovations NOW...

FMIC has announced that it will end production of Ovation guitars in the US due to soft market demand. Ovations will continue to be manufactured overseas (China, South Korea, Indonesia).

Fender to End Domestic Ovation Production.

These are about to become the greatest acoustic guitars ever made by all the guitar snobs. Give it four years off production.

Crap. I've been putting this off for years, and now I don't have the cash.

Given the fact that they sound like shoeboxes with rubber bands stretched across them, this is truly awesome news. "Soft demand" means everyone else agrees with me.

I'm sorry, I revise my earlier statement. They sound like if a slug took a dump in a Flat Rate Shipping box and then sent it across country to his best friend as a prank - an ovation sounds like that.

Were these the guitars with the rounded backs that looked like they were covered in line-x pickup bed liner? And therefore always slid down into your lap no matter how you tried to hold them while you were sitting?

Thank goodness.

However, a long time ago they made some seriously decent solid body electrics.

Yes.

My church bought one of those, and quite often I was the one tasked to play it. Even with a strap it seemed to sit at some unholy angle to my body that made playing it the bane of my existence. And forget trying to sit with it, because it loved to move to the music...

They also had a set neck that looked a little like an Ibanez Artist. I have an old breadwinner that sort of works.

My brother had one and I always enjoyed playing it.

I don't know how much time I logged on it outside of breakout jam sessions, though.

As an owner of an Ovation, I quite like it. But I understand completely they're not for everyone... weirdos.
