MXL R144 Ribbon Mic Review

So, on a day off from tour I had to go to Guitar Center to get some more picks when I stumbled across this little microphone. I've been wanting a ribbon mic for recording guitars for quite a while, and I thought, with it being $99 I'm not out that much cash by getting it. I've only gotten to record some snippets through my old Blackstar HT Dual and 70's Fender Champ since my JVM is buried in the trailer underneath mountains of production gear and such.

I've always had trouble finding a good mic'ed tone out of the 70's Champ, but I combined my little e609 and the MXL ribbon mic together and it sounds huge. There is a little eq, but it's minimal, just cutting off a little above 7k. I totally expected this mic to sound terrible, but it actually sounds pretty good by itself as well. Next week I'll have some time off from the road and I'll be trying it out with the tour rig and I'll post a full review.
