The Italian Beef, Hot Dog, and Deep Dish Pizza have all been mentioned for Chicago, but don't forget some others. A Maxwell Street Polish is life changing. Other famous fare includes Italian Sausage, Gyros, and the amazing Combo.

My HOMETOWN (Chippewa Falls, WI)... well, of course, Leinenkugels beer. That's what. In all of its many varieties, too. Fantastic stuff. And of course, cheese. Lots and lots of cheese, because it's Wisconsin.

I think in Seattle, it's pretty clear whatcha gotta do...
- Get some fresh wild salmon in all it's glorious forms. Smoked, seared, cured, raw, grilled, baked, planked... any way you want it, you can get it.
- Shoot some fresh Hood Canal oysters.
- Have some Dungeness crab, preferably pulled out of the ocean that day.
- Cream cheese hot dog (w/grilled onions and sriracha) - don't knock it 'til you've tried it.

I'll probably think of more later. How 'bout your hometown?
Probably shoot yourself a woodchuck and eat that if you want the town I was born in.

The town I mostly grew up in? Jalisco style Mexican food. Fresh produce. I ate more melons and fresh fruits and veggies in the central valley than anyplace else I have lived.

Where I live now, the primary things would be beer and voodoo donuts. But I would point you to a gluten free bakery not too far from here to get a cupcake. Those are amazingly good and put any baked good I have ever had to shame. I could also direct you to amazing coffee. The food around the Portland area is ridiculously good and tends to be local, artisanal and anything you could want.

according to the myth around them they were originally made as a dog treat to shut dogs up. They are awesome and are a treat from the American South.

Dalessandro's Steaks and Hoagies

To try if you were in our area? I wouldn't consider the food to be 5 star, but so far their food's are some of the best in my travels......
LaCasita-Local Tex Mex restraunt. Most of the dishes are great tasting though my favorite is a fajita nacho's dish named after a local celebrity who once played in the Majors. While he wasn't that great a ball player, his nachos were.
777-Local Chinese restraunt. Sadly, not all their stuff is as great as their best, but what they do tends to be nice.
Pete's Burgers-It's in the name. Burgers. I'm partial to the chili cheese.
Ranch Hand Cafe-They say everything's bigger in Texas and this place ran with it. From the chicken fried steaks to their burgers, to even their chicken and dumplings, the food's always been great and I've rarely left without lots of left overs.
