What sticks do you use?

What are you using and why?

I'm currently in the search for sticks

I usually just go with standard Vic Firth 5A's. They seem to work for everything, unless I'm doing some heavy hitting stuff then I go up to 5B's.

7A on my kit. For marching I still use ProMark DC10.

I like the 7A because it tends to give me more dynamic control. Short of being on stage with a thundering wall of sound as a back line I think most drummers tend to be a bit heavy-handed. Nylon tips are nice if you're doing lots of ride cymbal but they're kind of lost on most player's technique.

I'll be teaching a clinic on rudiments and dynamic control for a marching drum line in a few weeks. The kids are always fascinated by the DC10. I'd love to switch them over to them but they aren't stylish or some such thing.

My problem is that I like 7A's (my background is in jazz), but I'm having problems breaking them with the worship stuff since I'm using 20" and 22" rides with lots of shouldering them for big washed out sounds. I think I could live with 5A's, but anything heavier feels clunky to me. I tried a pair of Vater West Side sticks and they just felt too heavy on the cymbals (especially the hi hats). I love the feel of a long thin taper, but I think I need a short taper for strength in that shoulder.
