Rush

Well...they're finally getting in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame...not that it means anything.

Pretty good year for them. New album got good reviews. Tour sold well.

I'm a happy fan.

In the back of my mind, I always kind of wished they would tell the ridiculous hall of fame to take a hike when they finally got in. They have too much class to do that (unlike me, apparently). Oh we'll, now they are in the hall with other rock icons like Madonna and John mellencamp...

The new music this year from them has been great, but I am excited about all of the stuff coming from 2112.

Yep. I am a rush geek. Openly! Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I discovered Rush back in 1987 when I was in high school. I've been a fan ever since.

I missed this last tour because it was four hours away on a work night. I hate it too...because they pulled out some mid-80's stuff.

It's a shame John Rutsey passed away and won't be able to join them at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

So...what are your favorite albums?

I'm not used to having a lot of Rush fans around here.

You kidding? I thought everyone was a Rush fan...
It's about time they got inducted. (is that the right word?) Although I thought it was kind or
novel that they had been overlooked for the title when they are such a stellar band.
Kind of put the RRHOF organization in their place without saying a word.
You'd have to think the RRHOF has seen the nose thumbing for years!
We all know this is a no-brainer, but I wonder if some of it is damage control...

Honestly...had it not been for some high profile Rush fans like Eddie Trunk and the Colbert Report taking issue with it...they might not have gotten in. And let's face it...Rush fans are pretty passionate about the band. Add to that a new album that sold well and a tour that was well attended. I really believe Rush are at a high mark of their career right now. The critics who hated on them in the 70's and 80's are not around. Look at all the bands who name-drop Rush as an influence.

Kiss will most likely never get it even though they deserve to.

What are your opinions of Clockwork Angels? Did any of you read the book?

I am finding that I can only listen to this album as a whole. The songs don't really work as singles. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It does mean I have to commit an hour every time I want to listen though.

Like the music. Did not read the book. Probably will, just haven't had time. I still think the music has become a bit over produced (30 layers of guitars is a bit much) but its still a good listen. I remain more rabid about the older stuff COS, Hemispheres, FTK. Favorite is probably FtK because of Xanadu.

I became a Rush fan in high school...in the late Eighties. My first real exposure was the keyboard stuff...and I loved it. I soon bought all of their albums and devoured them. For the longest time Hemispheres was my favorite. I still loved the keyboard stuff because that is what I first heard. I thought their late Eighties and early Nineties output was good because it brought a bit of an edge back to the music. I didn't care for A Test For Echo much at all (mostly due to the lyrics) and I didn't get into Vapor Trails when it came out.

Since then...I have really gone back and listened to their entire body of work as a whole and I can honesty say that I can find something I like about every single album. I do think that Snakes And Arrows was weak lyrically in places but I liked most of the musical things they tried. As far as Clockwork Angels goes...I think it's the best thing they've done in over twenty years. I know that there are haters who are going to hate...but I think it's their most cohesive album since Moving Pictures and it incorporates a lot of their past musical and lyrical elements.

More than any other band I know of, the fans are at polar opposite ends of the spectrum. You are completely into them, or you hate them. Never met many "meh" type rush fans. I mentioned to the person cutting my hair that I was a rush fan, and I thought they were going to shave my head! Actually almost seemed upset she was dealing with a rush fan! Now that's weird!

Just cranked Angels again for the ride home last night. It keeps growing on me. I agree about the lyrical content on TFE. Of the "recent" stuff, I think I like counterparts the best, then roll the bones lyrically.

We are only immortal, for a limited time... One of the coolest lyric lines ever.

Out of their "newer" stuff....The Pass is my favorite song...although it's not that new. The music matches the lyrics perfectly. Out of the older stuff...I have to go with either The Trees or Limelight...I can't make up my mind. Grand Designs and Prime Mover are personal favorites as well.

As much as I dislike Test For Echo...I think Driven and Half The World are really good songs.
