Keytar

Hey guys, I wasn't sure where to ask this, in the guitar thread or the piano?
Does anyone have or have played a Keytar?
Who thinks they're cool? (Me)
Who wants one? (Me)
If you have one, is it harder to play than a keyboard? Is it better? Would you want to sell it? ;-p
I asked a band, S&S, who has a keytar that some of the members play and they said Rolands are pretty good.
Anyone have anything to say?
BTW I think keytars are some of the coolest along with elec guitar, bass, and keys.

I think the key advantage (heh, unintentional pun) of a keytar over a keyboard is the ability to run around and be crazy on stage. I'd hazard a guess that they're more awkward to play and don't sound as good, but hey, they're fun.

As such, if I were to get one it would be for novelty value. I'm not currently in any bands that would appreciate that style of stage presence, so, other instruments and recording equipment are higher priority when it comes to contemplating further acquisitions.

if it's midied then you can have any sound you like.

but then you'll need a cable so you you'll be thethered to at least some extent.......

can you get wirelss midi kits? no idea......

they're also by definition a one handed instrument, so it'll be limited in that sense......

At least those things are keyboards, and can be midi triggers--there was something a number of years ago also called a keytar where you played keys with one hand and strummed with another

Their website seems to be down (probably not in business any more...)
But you can see it at this site--it's the third item on the page.
By the way--that's a fun site in general--lots of weird stuff there.

Here's a site with pictures

I think it would be Cool to see more Keytars. I haven't seen any Bands use them much since the 80's (New Wave Era).

---I hope you get one & Rock It Out on Stage!

Nadaddy from Family Force 5 plays the keytar, but I'm not sure if it's an actual keytar or just a keyboard with a guitar strap.

That's so cool! I've loved FF5 for years and never knew that! I first got introduced to Keytars from Satellites and Sirens. They're cool.
