Take some lessons. Yes... I know it sounds awful... but it really won't be that bad. You don't need to stick with them for a long time if you don't want to.... but take at least a few weeks worth. Try to concentrate on learning the basic mechanics of playing the piano, the basic methods of scale and chord formation on piano, and getting both of your hands playing at the same time.

Good instruction is a must with piano.
I've been classically trained since the age of 5, practicing almost everyday till I went to college (too bad I gave up music school for a regular college path).
Anyhow, there is so much involved in the piano. More than most people can imagine.

Again, good instruction, and LOTS of practice.

Agreed. But make sure you don't merge "good instruction" with "classical training" Yes, most good teachers will teach almost exclusively from classical pieces.... but don't get roped into thinking that if you can't play classical, you can't play piano.

Lessons are a must. Piano is definitely one of the trickier instruments out there and a good teacher will make learning a lot easier. As said, classical training is definitely helpful, but also try to find someone that can venture outside of that. I was trained only in classical music by the same teacher for a long time and I feel that not having any kind of instruction in other styles (Jazz improv for example) really hindered my playing.
