Need computer recording sofware

Hi,
Which program(s) do you use for recording? I have Cakewalk Home Studio 9 and am very dissapointed in it. It's no good. I can't get any volume or power without getting distortion also.

I also have Cool Edit 2000 and it works better, but the same problem still. Not enough power. I get about a third of the volume as my cd's and I need PROFESSIONAL quality. What do you recommend?

It's the computer software. It works fine running it through the stereo

check out steinberg cubase and cubasis

i'm still doing a little research on it though...

You're talking about some of the big names in recording software. Are you sure it's not a hardware and/or setting problem? I use a shareware program (don't need professional quality) and had some problems initially, but once I set the input level on my computer it works fine. Could it be something that simple? Or maybe the sound card itself?

There are lots of helpful folks at www.guitarwar.com who record with those (and other) programs all the time. You may be able to access some recording help without paying for membership, I'm not sure.
