iTunes question

I want to buy an album on iTunes, but I don't want it ever to play unless I purposely select it. That is to say, I want it available, but, if I click "play all songs" on my iPod or in my iTunes, I don't want my fifty Army running cadences to play ever . I just want them in my library so I can create my own special playlist so I can learn them when I have time with my iPod. Is there a way to do this? Is that what the checkmarks are next to the songs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

IIRC the checks are to do exactly that. I rarely use shuffle or play everything in my library at once (it's over 160 gigs). When you are burning playlists to CD the checks are used to do that so I assume they work the same way all throughout iTunes.

Ooh, that seems to be it. I'm not sure if it translates over to the iPod, but I just messed around with the check marks on some playlists, and it looks like that'll do it! Thanks!

Yup, that'll do it, I think you have to select and option to only play checked music, but it may be set on that by default.

When I did this before, I just highlighted the songs, and clicked edit. There was a choice to skip over them while shuffling. Unchecking the marks never seemed to work for me.

Yeah, you want to check "Skip when shuffling" in the edit info tab as well.
