| And now I have a reason to only play old gibsons Obeche is something they use now.
Apparently, I am not supposed to touch that with latex allergy.

| I suppose that's as good a reason as any. Do you have any stashed away somewhere? |

| I believe 2011 is going to be my cutoff year.
51 is old by most any standard, and most folks would consider the '64 vintage.
The others are old in the sense of used, more or less.

| My Sister is turning 50 on the 5th. If I call her "old" or "vintage" she'll probably whack me with her handbag.
Seriously, I hope you didn't find out about this material change the hard way. All that time working for the pawn shop is paying off with yet another dividend. |

| you'd prolly be safe enough as its usually the DUST that gets folk with wood allergies.
when I did my guitar making class there was a guy making a cocobolo acoustic.
all was well until he started sanding for finish and then all sorts of problems started.
someone took it from him, spent a couple of weeks sanding, and once it had the first couple of coats of finish he was fine again...... |

(I am in a very severe allergy class for latex, and contact with the wrong materials will cause a reaction where my skin sloughs off.) Rosewood & cocobolo have an irritating oil to the respiratory system that can cause anaphylaxis if you are allergic.
If the academic articles were correct. Someone with a latex allergy that manifests the way mine does can have a pretty dangerous reaction from the wood. On the plus side, I am one of the people whose blood and such are being tested in research because it is so darn rare. But no new SG for me.
And Jeepnstein, yeah, it is paying off in spades.
That and I seem to have recently really cracked the code to making guitars I like.

I guess that also precludes being a model on Face/Off or doing any protracted Haunt work. |

I think the fact that I am short and hairy precludes me from modeling as anything other than a diminutive sasquatch.

And I have a small arsenal of gibsons.
a 51, 64, 81, 84,87, and a 97 and a 00.

| Nice collection. And yeah, I'd want to be sure, don't blame you.
My '11 faded has baked maple, and I like it.

My '11 faded has baked maple, and I like it. | I had heard about baked maple a couple years ago. I hear it makes a killer neck wood too.
