I'm not sure if there is anything that I typically refuse to order, but when I eat out, and I get something that I particularly liked, whenever I go back I tend to order the same exact item, and don't really explore menus too much.

That is why I used the word drastically, not simply overpriced...

While this is true, we could interpret the comment as meaning the outliers in profit margin. Whereas a $10 burger and fries might cost the restaurant $5, a $10 cocktail probably costs the restaurant <$1.

Unless I'm at a place that specializes in soups and sandwiches I won't order a sandwich....and I generally don't go to those places anyway so I can't remember the last time I ordered a sandwich.

I'll only order a hamburger in a good burger joint. There's a place in Houston that has a condiment section that looks like a salad bar. You order your burger cooked to your specs and then they have a bunch of different lettuce's, onions, peppers, cheese's, sauces and relishes etc. I love me a burger at a joint like that.

I worked in and did ordering for resturants during my first go around in college, and after seeing what they charge for what they pay, there's a lot I won't touch. Specifically "asian" or "tortilla" salads. The first is sort of like a salad with roasted ramen noodles and the second is, well, obvious. And considering the stuff comes out of the bag the way it might if I bought it from the groccery store... No thanks.

So I guess I'm saying I wouldn't order anything that didn't seem like my fifteen-to-thirty dollars was put to work. Nothing that can be (and probably is) microwaved, like many soups and hot sandwhiches. I want to be able to see my stuff being prepared also, which has me sticking with sushi/mongolian-type, or other cook-at-your-family-style-table-while-you-watch kind of places.

I won't order spaghetti & meatballs because frankly I've never had a tolerable meatball at a restaurant, and most sauces (even at good restaurants) are only passable. It may color my judgement since I typically make my great grandmother's recipe, and she didn't speak english or write things down... so

I have things I won't order unless I get the details first. Corned beef hash & chicken fried steaks are two of my favorite things, but unless they're made from scratch, I'd rather have neither.
