Without a doubt they would. They wouldn't want to, but most conservatives feel that any of the current candidates would be 100x better than the current President.

The question isn't who the left will get on board with; it's who the middle will get behind and will the left whole-heartedly support a President they haven't been too happy with.

Oh yeah, I get that. I was thinking more of what is happening now rather than November. If Romney wins in New Hampshire will Republicans still hold out for a not-Romney? Intra-party politics are fascinating.

I give it til March 6th with Ohio and Tennessee. He'll probably lose SC....not sure about FL. But if Romney does well Super Tuesday I think the party will start to get behind him and look forward to the general election. Most of the party, anyway. Paul will do whatever Paul will do.

If any other candidate is within 10% in NH it won't look like much of a victory. I don't know if that's possible though since Perry isn't dropping out.

I know it wouldn't happen. Mostly because I don't think he has a chance at winning the nomination, let alone the election. But if he's not actually interested in pushing legislation, why is he going out of his way to make a big deal out of states' rights on this particular issue? I may believe states technically have the right to ban toaster ovens, but I'm probably not going to bring up such a specific example (repeatedly) unless I have a vested interested in it. Mostly, I'm just sick of hearing him talk as though extramarital sex is the root of most of the country's problems.

His base are social conservatives, of course he's going to talk up issues which fire them up. It's how he went from 4% in Iowa to 25%. SC is gonna eat that up.

I've only heard him talk about the issue once. I really don't see it as something he's making a big deal about. I do see it as something progressives are making a big deal about.
